So, as I have been going through this wonderful roller-coaster of an experience, I see that I am falling behind on one of my four classes this semester. Low and behold, it is the one that I have to face up to the failures of eating healthy. So, to make a long and painful story short, I have not been able to cut out all forms of crappy food. I have been able to stay away from meat, mainly cause I have been doing that for the last 3 years, but not entirely. Unfortunately I consider fish meat, and unfortunately sushi has fish, and unfortunately I love sushi. But that is the good stuff that is not the best, but better than most of the bad stuff. (o.0) I think I am going crazy. I have been able to control soda consumption, water intake, fatty foods, sweets, and "Fast Food", but my downfall it time consumption and nutrient density. Unfortunately I have not been ADDING a large amount of healthy food to my diet. When I get home, I have no energy, and I cannot push myself to make/juice the foods that I need to for the next day. This "stacks" so to speak, pushing my lunch and dinner in directions that are almost impossible to retrace, and get back on track. Because I do not have the right food ready for breakfast, I eat something that is quicker than normal. Maybe some sprouted Ezekiel bread with avocado and seasoning spread on the top of it. Keeps me full till lunch time, but what happens when I do not have the avocado, I fry an egg. BOTH of which are too high in fat for me. Anyways, trying to get a grasp on anything that might help with my situation, I have tried to do what one of the people posted as a response here on this site. I try to make sure that I am never really hungry. So far, this has helped IMMENSELY with my stress level, which in turn helps me not crave comfort food, which in turn helps me eat better. I have researched more of the benifits of it and some of them can be found here.

NOT THE BEST, but defiantly better. Now if I can just overcome my little devil on my left shoulder telling me "Capriotti's veggie cheese steak has no meat, and is quick. You can run errands AND eat tasty grilled mushrooms and onions with fake meat." Man that little devil is heavy.
LOL...veggie cheese steak has meat. Who knew. It must be the grilled mushrooms that are no good for you. I hope I'm not egging you on, but why would a veggie cheese steak be bad for you? Before I go, I have to say that I greatly admire your discipline and "THIS CLASS" is the reason I'm falling behind on my other three.
ReplyDeleteLikewise I have found myself not keeping up with certain aspects of this class at times and vice versa. But needless to say, back to topic! I admire your honesty at how hard this adventure of yours actually is. I know, from experience, how hard a new agenda and routine can be to uphold. All that I can suggest is keep at it. Eventually you will realize what the benefit is long term and that will drive you forward! Keep at it :)
ReplyDeleteAnd thus is why I ponder the full usefulness of 'diets'. Or at least the proclaimed ones (not counting self-made diets). Balance is everything. It's not enough just to eat one lousy serving of greens in 5 minutes and then the day is done; oh no no no, one small 5 minute meal of greens in one day does more harm than 5 sizable meals that are spread out throughout the course of the day. Granted, it's probably slightly more than just 1 5 minute meal, but--- the point is that the best 'diet' is balance. Even out the meals throughout the day and then add some exercise in between meals.
ReplyDeleteDon't feel bad about falling behind! I am too! I think that I am good then I look and low and behold I missed a deadline! Greatly stressing me out!
ReplyDeleteAs far as your food goes, do the best you can. Probably not the best advice. Just try to do the best you can you are only human after all! :)
I'm falling behind too and this is the only class I'm taking. Life just has a way of getting in the way sometimes. I'm with Matt on the diet, I prefer making a lifestyle change. Lifestyle changes take time though. I just realized how far we've come when my daughter brought home a project for school to make an island out of salt dough. We have no table salt or white flour in the house. I only have whole wheat flour and sea salt. We also don't have refined white sugar. Unfortunately when I don't cook and that sometimes is quite often we resort to fast food. Even so I've lost 10 lbs in the last year without trying just changing how we eat at home. And besides Capriotti's can be healthy it's better than McDonalds and if you go with a whole grain bun, turkey and fresh veggies and mustard it's pretty good for you. Keep up the good work..
